Often we think of the Canton Newcomers’ as a social group, but one of the other main purposes of the Club is to help local charities. During our 2009 – 2010 year, we raised $1500 for Child’s Hope. We also collected gifts for the Canton Goodfellows’ No Child Without a Christmas program. For the 2010 – 2011 year, our main Club charity is the Autism Collaborative Center.

The Autism Collaborative Center provides accessible, high quality assessment, intervention, and referral services to enable persons with autism to achieve their maximum potential. The money that we raise will be used to support the development of a music therapy program for young children with autism. Our spring Mom2Mom fundraiser will benefit the Center.

Not only do we have a main charity for the year, but we also choose different charities for each monthly meeting. Our September charity is First Step. First Step works to reduce the incidence of domestic and sexual violence and provides services to individuals affected by these crimes. The money we raise this month will be used for the Canton shelter residents’ basic needs such as transportation, children’s activities, and supplies. We will also have a basket at our meeting to collect basic toiletries such as soap, shampoo, tissues, etc. Please consider purchasing raffle tickets during the September meeting. Tickets are $1 each, or 6 for $5. For every item you donate to the basket at or before the meeting, you will receive a raffle ticket.
